Marcellas Reynolds :: Fall 2013's Fab Five

Kilian Melloy READ TIME: 4 MIN.

Fall is here and there's a definite chill to the air as temperatures drop and the days get shorter.

It's time to pack away those flip-flops, tanks and shorts. Gone are summer's bright and neon colors - so over.

It's time to add in rich fabrics in dark tones, chunky sweaters and luxe leather.

GET EXCITED BECAUSE FALL '13 IS SEXY, NOSTALGIC, MASCULINE AND COOL.

TWEED

Tweed never goes out of style, and this season it showed up on every major runway.

Though a constant classic, it's modern in new tailoring and shapes. Plaid, tweed's showier cousin, turns up as well and is reworked from classics your grandpa might have worn, with a whole new level of swagger.

SWEATERS

Knitwear turned up all over the runways for fall.

Hedi Slimane for Saint Laurent showed oversize cardigans that double as coats.

Newcomer Todd Snyder showed thin, layering pieces, in graphic stripes that fit perfectly under a blazer.

Sweaters are having a major moment.

STYLE NOTE:

The easy way to get the knitwear trend is a rugby striped scarf.

Go high end from Saint Laurent or get the look on the cheap from Zara.

MILITARY

The military trend is masculine, sharp and ber sexy.

Try pairing an olive blazer (green in every shade is a big color trend for Fall '13) over a chunky sweater.

Go even more modern with a camo-fatigue pant and a pair of sexy C-IN2 olive mesh briefs under 'em!

NAVY

The must have color for Fall '13 is navy. It's a welcome alternative to black and it is easily approachable and works well with so many other colors.

You can wear navy head to toe or pair it with black, grey or brown and it's perfect with denim.

STYLE NOTE: Run, don't walk, to snag yourself one of Parisian designer Sandro's navy wool bombers.

MOTO JACKET

Moto jackets, an American classic when worn with denim and a tee, are at the top of everyone's list for fall and the options are endless as we move into colder weather.

From lightweight biker jackets to heavier vintage-inspired bomber looks, anything goes.

STYLE NOTE: Your moto jacket must be in leather!

If you have one you've held onto forever, pull it out and put it on!

If I had to pick one piece that encapsulates what Fall 2013 is all about, it would be a quirky plaid blazer. This season we're reworking classic menswear in a modern and personal way. What would your father or grandpa wear? Now make that look modern.
